DIVE THE HMAS BRISBANE!
Originally built in 1965, the destroyer HMAS Brisbane, the Navy’s last steam-driven ship, was scuttled in the warm waters off Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on Sunday 31st July 2005. The scuttling was viewed by thousands of people from a myriad of vantage points both on the water and on the shore, providing a fantastic spectacle as she slid slowly beneath the surface to create what is now a magnificent tourist attraction and mecca for dive enthusiasts from across Australia and overseas.
Managed by Queensland’s Department of Environment & Resource Management, the wreck of the HMAS Brisbane is a premier dive site accessible to both commercial and private vessels. There are four commercial moorings and one public mooring available.
The Sunshine Coast Visitor Information Centre at Maroochydore is the appointed ticketing agent for the public mooring and issues DIVE PASSES that can be booked over the phone or in person and paid in full at the Maroochydore office only. To dive the HMAS Brisbane from the public mooring, you or your club must have a valid dive pass for the applicable time-slot issued by this Sunshine Coast Visitor Information Centre.
